Our EmpowerTM brackets are made in the USA. They utilize (sliding-door) technology known as "self-ligation" that allows the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket with ease and efficiency.
No elastic or steel ties are required with self ligating brackets. This technology creates less friction and results in greater comfort, simpler appointments, better oral hygiene, and the possibility of faster treatment times for the patient.
Our EmpowerTM braces are available in traditional metal appearance and a tooth colored porcelain appearance.
While either brace style will work, porcelain braces are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawback to ceramic brackets are that they are more fragile, and can add some additional friction that can slow treatment times slightly.
The Invisalign System is a series of clear trays - called aligners - that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. Invisalign is available to adult and teen patients with certain relatively simple orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign or invisalign teen treatment.
AcceledentTM is a way for patients to drastically speed up their orthodontic treatment by using a gentle, vibrating mouth guard. Acceledent does three things. First, it increases the rate of tooth movement by reducing friction of the braces against the wire or teeth in invisalign trays through "jiggling," Secondly, it greatly increases blood flow and circulation around the teeth that greatly assist in the body allowing the teeth to move through the bone toward their final, straight position.
And last, it has been shown to reduce the sensation of pain associated with orthodontic treatment while demonstrating some root protection capabilities. This is a great option for patients that want to accelerate the arrival of their finished treatment and all of our patients that have tried it have been raving about AcceledentTM.
One of the most common problems orthodontists treat is an overbite, commonly referred to as "buck teeth." Ordinarily, when we see a patient with the upper teeth protruding, we tend to think that the upper jaw and teeth are too far forward; but, more often than not, this condition is due to a lower jaw that is too small.
Therefore, the best correction for overbite problems is usually to encourage the lower jaw to catch up in growth, and the addition of a Forsus or Herbst appliance can efficiently help this happen.
This fixed-in-place appliance is a favorite of our patients - it takes away the need to wear rubber bands and it is actually very cosmetic, hiding behind the lips and cheeks. It is also extremely efficient, correcting problems often in half the time it would take for rubber bands.
So, if you hear another orthodontist recommend the dreaded "headgear" for your child, you should ask them why the ForsusTM isn't an option because, more often than not, this is the best solution to the problem.
