Types of Braces

In-Ovation/Damon Brackets

In-Ovation or Damon® brackets utilize (sliding-door) technology known as "self-ligation" that allows the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket.

No elastic or steel ties are used with self ligating brackets. This technology creates less friction and results in greater comfort, simpler appointments, simpler oral hygiene, and the possibility of faster treatment times for the patient.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (tooth colored porcelain) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawback to ceramic brackets are that they are more fragile, and can add some additional friction that can slow treatment times slightly.

Invisalign®

The Invisalign System is a series of clear trays - called aligners - that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult and teen patients with certain relatively simple orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.

Forsus / Herbst

One of the most common problems orthodontists treat is the discrepancy that occurs when the upper teeth protrude beyond the lower - or overbite! Ordinarily, when we see a patient with the upper teeth protruding, we tend to think that the upper jaw and teeth are too far forward; but, more often than not, this condition is due to a small lower jaw that is further back than it should be. With these patients, we would like to encourage the lower jaw to catch up in growth, and the addition of a Forsus or Herbst appliance can efficiently help this happen.

Even though the Forsus / Herbst appliance keeps the lower jaw in a protruded position to allow the lower jaw to grow while the bite is held in a more ideal position, opening and closing movement still occur easily, and patients do not have any problems learning to chew their food with their lower jaw in this new position.

Your Forsus / Herbst appliance will be checked and adjusted at your appointments. Many an overbite that was not being corrected with braces and rubber bands alone has been tamed by these easy to wear appliances.  Did we forget to mention that this is a substitute for headgear in most situations!
